As a self taught Swiss artist, he mastered the demanding craft of welding in order to breathe a soul into an uncompromising material. His artistic philosophy is rooted in the constant tension between opposing sensations. Metal is inherently cold, hard and sharp edged, yet in the skilled hands of Mik-Art it is transformed into forms that radiate warmth, fluidity and an almost fragile tenderness. This process of transformation makes every one of his works unique, blurring the boundaries between the weight of steel and the lightness of imagination.

Creativity has been part of his life since childhood. What began with modelling clay, pottery clay and Lego bricks now finds its expression in metal.
Between those early beginnings and his work today lies a life path that has been anything but straightforward, shaped by curiosity, a constant need for movement and a passion for embracing new experiences. When he was forced to give up the sport he had pursued so intensely, that energy needed a new form of expression, and he found it in working with metal.
Movement and dynamism have always fascinated Michael. Today, he transfers that energy into his sculptures and gives them a sense of tension, as though they might begin to move at any moment. Above all, he follows his curiosity, whatever inspires him, moves him and sparks new ideas at that particular moment. It is precisely from this impulse that his mystical beings and fantastical worlds emerge, giving physical form to his imagination.
He rarely needs sketches. He simply enters the studio and begins. From that moment on, his hands and the material take over what has already begun to take shape in his imagination. In the creative flow, time and everyday life disappear, sometimes for many hours. It is a state of complete concentration and devotion, in which nothing matters except the work that is coming into being.
